On (the) T at… Stefan de Bever from De Bever Architects
At the start of a new year people often pause briefly to make plans. This is also the case with the development and design of Strijp-T. That is why Cecile and Boudie this time spoke with architect Stefan de Bever, who has been closely involved with Strijp-T for years and plays an important role at Strijp-T.

What does your company do?
“We create and safeguard the quality ofof space to people in it ona to make working and staying pleasant. We do spatial design and engineering from chair to city. For Strijp-T this means that we are, among other things, involved in the design, the transformation and renovation of the Innovation Powerhouse and building TX. But also proactively contributing ideas, executing and safeguarding the urban design of the entire site. And, for example, also being the creator of the T-line walking route and the Strijp-T shirt. And currently we are also busy fitting out the new office tower and industrial hall for Bosch in building TX," said Stefan.
“The uniqueness of Strijp-T is to remain involved in this grand development for years with a close-knit team. A wonderful challenge to handle 25 Ha of historically valuable terrain with care. In doing so, preserving the rugged industrial character of the ensemble of several architecturally valuable Philips factories. Transforming it in such a way that the area and building remain future-proof. And that the philosophy of Philips lives on: Practical buildings with lots of natural light, spacious in layout with above-average greenery, so that at Strijp-T you find yourself in a pleasant environment. And that Strijp-T remains a breeding ground for togetherness. The typical Philips family feeling of doing things together is recognizable once again in the Strijp-T community. People have remained central all those years. By creating a pleasant work and living environment, people used to want to work at Philips. Strijp-T is still an inspiring place to work, which in recent years has been crucial in the context of the ‘battle for talent’.”
What is your role?
“As an architect and owner of De Bever Architects I lead our team. As a spatial thinker I safeguard the helicopter view within the Strijp-T development & construction team and, as a creative director, I take charge of the creative direction”.
“What is special is that I, like client GEVA, am a family business with many years of knowledge and practical experience with a long-term vision that transcends generations”
“Besides thinking about the architecture and the technical details, I especially value the personal involvement with the people I work with. This makes it extra fun to work on and at Strijp‑T and to be part of the Strijp‑T community.”
At whose place would you like to have us go on the T next time?
“Drop by ‘newcomer’ Bosch that will soon establish itself as the largest player on Strijp-T in building TX’.‘
