Bumper in place at Veemgebouw Eindhoven
Eindhovens Dagblad
"Hey, are we getting a station at Strijp-S as well now?" says a passerby as he makes his way to work or school through the pouring rain. The men from GEVA BV briefly look up from their work: installing the buffer stop that is meant to keep the memories of the Philips railway lines at Strijp-S alive.
Railway lines
The initiative of the Henri van Abbe Foundation was actually carried out on Friday morning. The gift from GEVA BV (and not GEMA, as previously reported) has found its place near the Veemgebouw. There used to be a buffer stop there, at the end of a branch line of one of the three railway lines along the many Philips buildings. The Veem was a warehouse for Philips; that's why it also has such a high ground floor, which served as the loading and unloading platform.
Co-initiator Ruud Nordt - according to his own words, in pleasant collaboration with the municipality of Eindhoven and Park Strijp Beheer - searched for the right location. That became the Veemgebouw. There, the owner, housing corporation Sint Trudo, hopes to eventually rebuild the old gatehouse near what used to be the Beukenpoort of the forbidden city. If there is a good opportunity for the operation of such a glass, semi-circular extension.
