Eindhoven is not standing still, you can see that in the area development of Strijp-T.

What used to be a piece of hidden city is now a location where as an entrepreneur you would like to establish yourself. At least if it fits within the Strijp-T model: next step where Make-Create-Innovate is central. Because the focus is on a selective group of entrepreneurs. Not every company can position itself here. "We look at the nature of the business activities. These should be B2B and related to the Innovative, creative manufacturing industry in the areas of High Tech, Sustainability, Smart Society or Experience," said Boudie Hoogedeure from the Strijp-T development team, with whom we are discussing Strijp-T.

"From the first brainstorming sessions about Strijp T in March 2016, it was already clear that we were not only looking at the buildings themselves, but at the entire area (over 25 hectares) on Strijp-T. The reuse of this historical industrial heritage became the starting point," says an enthusiastic Boudie Hoogedeure. "The impressive post-war buildings had to be preserved and renovated with respect for the atmosphere and architecture, optimized for sustainable business operations with modern comfort. Creating such a unique area for entrepreneurs that companies can use the high-quality appearance of Strijp-T as a professional business card."

At the same time, it becomes more attractive to retain employees, as they prefer to work in an inspiring environment with like-minded people. This means that the housing on Strijp-T offers more than just a number of physical square meters of workspace. Strijp-T addresses one of the biggest challenges for an entrepreneur today. Especially in a technical environment like Eindhoven where everyone is fishing in the same pool of talented personnel. Each building has its own character and was designed for a specific use. And focusing solely on designing energy-efficient buildings is no longer relevant. Stijp-T focuses on the main goal of a building; people first. Thanks to the inviting landscape, rooftop gardens, landscaped park, with water and plenty of greenery, it has become a motivating and productive place for the employees of the 50 companies that have already established themselves here."

Strijp-T experience

"Een partner vanaf het eerste uur is Design Studio Van Berlo. Toonaangevend en gevestigd in gebouw TR, ook wel het Innovation Power House genaamd. Gebouw TQ dat ernaast staat, is het hoofdgebouw van het terrein. Dit gebouw, alleen al 40.000 vierkante meter, is in de jaren vijftig door Philips gebouwd en is daarmee één van de grootste gebouwen van Eindhoven. Onder andere zijn hier Additive Industries, C-touch en Fontys ICT gevestigd. Laatst genoemde HBO-opleiding werkt met Open Innovation Labs (OIL's). De jonge doelgroep van Fontys zorgt voor extra levendigheid, waar uiteraard qua faciliteiten ook rekening mee is gehouden. Op de begane grond van TQ zit 2Lobby: de ontmoetingsplek voor iedereen die werkt op het terrein. Deze horecagelegenheid kun je zien als de uitvalsbasis van alle bedrijfsevenementen die op het terrein plaatsvinden. Hier voelt het als thuiskomen en wordt je gastvrij ontvangen, zoals in een lobby van een hotel. Daarmee wordt het kantoor van de toekomst gevisualiseerd. Een plaats waar je met anderen verblijft met een flexibele duur en waar je af en toe uitsluitend komt vergaderen of iets eten. Zo is er een gezellig café, sfeervol ingericht en vol verwijzingen naar de geschiedenis van het gebied. En is er ruimte om te vergaderen. Verder is er een sportschool 'EindhovenGym' op het terrein, bevinden zich er prachtige daktuinen met inspirerende boardrooms. Deze high class ruimtes bieden naast een prachtig uitzicht, een unieke perfecte vergader-, diner-, of brainstormlocatie. Dit alles draagt bij aan een energieke Strijp-T experience waar je graag wilt vertoeven.

Further development

"Het gaat sneller dan we van te voren hadden gedacht. Het houdt niet op als alles verhuurd is. Op dit moment zijn nog slechts enkele units beschikbaar op Strijp-T in gebouw TQ, gebouw TZ en in gebouw TY. Dit laatste gebouw was het Philips Glaslaboratorium en wordt ook wel vanwege haar vorm de glazen kathedraal genoemd. Dit pand wordt volledig getransformeerd voor 2 gebruikers op dusdanige wijze dat het bijzondere uitstraling wederom behouden blijft. Voor dit gigantische pand met hoge plafonds zoeken we een nog een bedrijf van c.a. 3.500 m2 uit de innoverende maakindustrie die toe is aan een volgende stap. Naast het verder aanpakken van het naast gelegen gebouw TZ krijgt tegelijkertijd het buitengebied veel aandacht. Laan vier wordt op dit moment gereconstrueerd en recentelijk is een begin gemaakt met het opknappen van het Gloeilampplantsoen, dat zijn naam te danken heeft aan het ontwerp van de paadjes in de vorm van een gloeilamp waarbij de fitting als vijver terugkomt. Dit bijzonder stukje groen wordt ook wel de 'voortuin' genoemd en zorgt op haar beurt voor het versterken van het natuurlijke en duurzame karakter van Strijp-T.

New construction possibilities

Finally, Strijp-T offers opportunities for new construction. The second expansion of building TAQ is in full swing and initial discussions are being held with parties who also wish to establish themselves on Strijp-T, so that they can proudly call themselves 'Strijp-T residents' and become part of the energetic innovative community, even though the existing buildings are already fully rented out.
