The jury praised the 'variety of different innovative solutions' that the company achieves and the 'unique competence to bridge the gap between the world of hard technology and the soft side of innovation in design and creativity'. The company's focus on employee development did not go unnoticed by the jury. The management provides employees with significant opportunities for personal development and to come up with new solutions.
North Holland
Noord-Holland was chosen as the most innovative region in the Netherlands. Based on the findings from the Dutch Innovation Monitor, the jury highlights the 'strongly innovative ecosystem' due to the existing knowledge, transport, and ICT infrastructure in Noord-Holland, and 'the growth and flourishing of creative and ICT-driven start-ups' collaborating with a number of larger knowledge-intensive players in various industries.
Plant-e
Plant-e received the Social Impact Award. Avantas BV and ENGIE Services Nederland were also in the running for this award, but Plant-e emerged as the winner. Plant-e enables the generation of electricity based on plants. This spin-off from Wageningen University holds the patent for this technology and is reportedly the only commercial entity actively using it. The application of this technology by the Wageningen-based company makes it possible to provide electricity to underdeveloped areas.
