It might turn out to be really cool: a restaurant with a deli is opening in the former power plant at Strijps Bultje. East will combine food and drinks from the East and West. Migrant women will run the business. Now, during the Dutch Design Week, you can already get a taste.
The power plant at Strijp-T has been transformed in recent months from a power plant into a place for innovative entrepreneurs. It is now called Innovation Powerhouse. On the ground floor, you can already see the first outlines of East. During the Dutch Design Week, you can already get to know snacks and drinks from the East. "From the Middle East to the Far East," says Jacky van der Starre, the woman behind East. "We are going to combine authentic flavors of the East with those of the West."

Big plans

It is her plan to have the entire restaurant, pantry, deli, and kitchen up and running in the new year. Ambitions are certainly there: "We plan to create a deli at the entrance of Powehouse, where everyone can get a meal." Furthermore, the intention is for This is East to also provide catering and for a large terrace to be built for the former power plant. The business is also set to become a social work experience placement in the future.

Now you can already enjoy oriental snacks or a coffee with a mint chocolate under the beautiful bouquets, during the DDW. To be continued...and "the first request for a wedding has already come in."
