'Dreams' about extending Strijps Bultje at Strijp-S in Eindhoven
EINDHOVEN - A note for the new zoning plan for Strijp-S contains principles for the development into an 'innovation district', but also 'dreams' such as extending the Strijps Bultje for a good connection with Strijp-T.

Parts of the Videolab, the Microlab, and building SX on Strijp-S should be preserved for the creative companies located there. This is important for the development of Strijp-S into an 'innovation district'. Starting from 2020, this should be further elaborated, as well as the residential construction along Kastanjelaan. In the meantime, many homes are being built along the railway and in the triangle around Ketelhuisplein; very concrete plans already exist for this.
New zoning plan
This is stated in the memorandum outlining the principles for a new zoning plan for Strijp-S, which the council presented to the municipal council on Tuesday evening. It also includes 'dreams', as articulated by program manager Jos Roijmans and councilor Staf Depla. In order to better connect Strijp-S with the emerging Strijp-T area, the Strijps Bultje, the viaduct over Zwaanstraat on the ring road, could be extended a few hundred meters further. "It is on the lobbying agenda, but it will take some time before we convince ProRail," Roijmans said. Just before the tunnel near Strijp-S station, the ring road could then return to ground level.
Also, the idea of two passages for slow traffic under the railway at Limbeek is back on the agenda. Dreams? Yes, but the municipality is dreaming out loud. Because the first underpass has already been initiated on the side of Strijp-S, under the ramp to the new parking garage behind the apartments on Philitelaan.
Increasing housing construction
The zoning plan for Strijp-S must be updated after ten years, as required by law. The municipality takes this opportunity to incorporate new developments. The urban development plan was revised in 2012 due to the crisis at that time. Now, it is the increasing housing construction that is causing changes to the initial principles. Although the same amount of square meters for living and working will be realized, the phasing will be different. Along the railway, where offices were initially planned as a barrier for train noise, more housing will now be built.
The following plans are already in the making: in addition to the Nico tower on Beukenlaan, these also include the new construction at the location of bouldering gym Monk, a residential and work location next to the Clock Building (for, among others, Summa College Fashion), Haasje Over over Area51, and the green tower behind the Machinefabriek.
