Peeking at the Neighbors: A look behind the scenes at Prysmian Draka

A look behind the scenes, that is what Peeking at the Neighbors is all about, a regularly recurring activity of the Strijp-T community. Every company visit is special, but this time it was extra special.

We were namely visiting Prysmian Draka. Divided into small groups, 30 Strijp-T-ers could see with their own eyes how 200 kilometers of optical fiber were made from a single glass rod. In addition to a fascinating tour of the factory there were two presentations. Afterwards people chatted for a long time over delicious snack platters and meatballs from Sal-T.

Wilfred Meulenbroeks and colleagues, heartfelt thanks for the excellent organization and hospitality of this special edition of Gluren bij de Buren.

It was impressive to see how a large company in the field of glass fiber production is located here on Strijp‑T in Eindhoven and how innovative their processes are. During the presentations we were given a unique opportunity to learn more about the finer details of glass fiber production. During one of the presentations we were even able to experience firsthand how thin the glass is, something that was not possible during the factory tour due to the high temperatures.
