The glass cathedral of Strijp-T

AN ICONIC BUILDING, EXPERIMENTALLY DESIGNED SINCE TIME IMMEMORIAL

Building TY (built in 1956), also called the Glass Cathedral, was designed and commissioned by Philips as a pilot factory and glass laboratory. Together with the adjacent building TZ it formed for many years a development center for glass.
Now, decades later, the transformation plans at Strijp-T are becoming increasingly concrete and, following the buildings TAQ, TR and TQ, building TY is also undergoing a complete metamorphosis. All of this with respect for the original architectural character. Ready to house companies from the innovative High Tech manufacturing industry.

Astonishing and Surprising

"Interested entrepreneurs from the innovative high-tech manufacturing industry who come to Strijp-T are amazed. Because to see how so many buildings are being transformed in a short time, including the redevelopment of the entire site, is hard for many to believe. This effect becomes even stronger the moment one steps into the buildings. The exterior arouses interest because of the distinctive architecture. But once inside, you step into a modern, trendy and inspiring work environment. Developed entirely in line with the latest wishes and modern comforts, says Boudie Hoogedeure of the Strijp-T development team."

Strijp- T then and now

A little piece of history. Not so long ago people didn't know Strijp-T. People talked exclusively about Strijp-S and, to a lesser extent, about Strijp-R. The three sites formed the forbidden city in Eindhoven. Nobody knew exactly what was going on there. Three years ago an area vision was made for Strijp-T, in which the restructuring of the industrial estate and the reuse of this industrial heritage were central. It became a challenging endeavor. With the aim of Strijp-T together with

To have Strijp-S and Strijp-R be part of Innovation District Strijp. Hereby Strijp-T is characterized as a sustainable high-end business park for companies that are ready for the next phase, so have passed the startup phase. A location as a complement to and reinforcement of other business parks in Eindhoven.

In short, the aim was to realize an area transformation to be proud of. Een site that would provide Eindhoven's manufacturing industry with the missing link. The very link Eindhoven needs to be able to grow and develop even further. And that has been achieved. Successfully, in a very short time.

The next step: more than just m2 of commercial real estate

"It is very special and cool to see that Strijp-T is developing faster than was expected. Almost all spaces are now fully rented and the first parties are already outgrowing their space and finding elsewhere on T a fitting tailor-made suit," continues Hoogedeure. "Once you've landed on T, you don't want or need to leave anymore. In addition to the existing buildings that have been transformed and are being rented out, there are also a number of new-build opportunities. So we are far from finished," says Boudie

enthusiastic about. "What is also noticeable is that the companies that are now housed there inspire each other. We therefore focus on companies with the same vision. Organizations related to the manufacturing industry. And this also applies to the company that will soon be housed in building TY, the Glass Cathedral. This building offers space for a company of approximately 5,000 – 7,000 m2 (or to two companies of approximately 2,500 m2 – 3,500 m2 each).

In summary, at Strijp-T a company gets significantly more than just square metres of workspace. The same applies to building TY. For example, there is a beautiful roof terrace. It will once again be an inspiring environment that is good for the working atmosphere, for attracting clients and new employees. In other words, a professional calling card that can at the same time be used in 'the battle for talent'.

Green Lightbulb Park

"Obviously, the redesign of the green space also contributes to the vibrancy of the area. This redevelopment is being carried out in phases. Avenue 1 and 2 with the icon- ic buildings TR and TQ have been completed. From the outside in, work is now being carried out on the rest of the surroundings. At the moment, on the west side of Strijp-T, the connection of avenue 4 to the Achtseweg-Zuid is being finalised. Building TY is located here. The final touches are also being put on the second expansion of building TAQ and building TZ is being tackled."

The redevelopment of the Gloeilampplantsoen on the East Side of Strijp-T, which as a green zone forms an important part of the area, will receive this summer the at- tention it deserves. Quality appeal and experience lie at the foun- dation of this and we are doing everything to create a sustainable green space as a natural buffer between Strijp-S and Strijp-T."

The next business generation

Hoogedeure: 'The Glass Cathedral, or building TY, will soon once again show how you can transform monuments with vision and keep them literally and figuratively alive for future generations. With pride I can say that the authenticity of all buildings on Strijp-T has been pre- served in every respect through careful renovation. "Who knows a second ASML may emerge here". Plenty of potential. Supplemented with contemporary sustainable adaptations and renewal, we have ensured that the innovation spirit of Philips's legendary manufacturing industry lives on in every respect with new players at Strijp-T."

VISUAL TOUR How all this will eventually turn out in building TY can already be experienced now by taking part in a VR-experience on Strijp-T. You walk, with the help of a VR-headset, as it were already through the new trans- formed building in which the future is visualized and can be experienced firsthand. Potential interested parties who want to take 'the next step' at Strijp- T are warmly invited to do so.
