The glass cathedral of Strijp-T
AN ICONIC BUILDING, TRADITIONALLY DESIGNED EXPERIMENTALLY
Building TY (built in 1956), also known as the Glass Cathedral, was designed and used by Philips as a pilot factory and glass laboratory. Together with the adjacent building TZ, it formed a development center for glass for many years.
Now, decades later, the transformation plans for Strijp-T are becoming more concrete, following the buildings TAQ, TR, and TQ, building TY is also undergoing a complete metamorphosis. All of this is done with respect for the original architectural character. Ready to accommodate companies from the innovative High Tech manufacturing industry.
Amazing and Surprising
"Interested entrepreneurs from the innovative High Tech manufacturing industry who come to Strijp-T are amazed. Because to see how so many buildings are transformed in a short period of time, including the redevelopment of the entire site, is hardly believable for many. This effect becomes even stronger when one enters the buildings. The exterior sparks interest due to the unique architecture. But once inside, you step into a modern, trendy, and inspiring work environment. Developed entirely according to the latest desires and comforts of today, according to Boudie Hoogedeure of the Strijp-T development team."
Strijp-T then and now
A piece of history. Not so long ago, people were not familiar with Strijp-T. They only talked about Strijp-S and to a lesser extent about Strijp-R. The three areas formed the forbidden city in Eindhoven. No one knew exactly what was happening there. Three years ago, a vision for the area was created, focusing on the restructuring of the industrial estate and the reuse of this industrial heritage. It became a challenging endeavor. The goal was to develop Strijp-T together with.
To make Strijp-S and Strijp-R part of the Innovation District Strijp. Strijp-T is characterized as a sustainable high-end business park for companies that are ready for the next phase, beyond the startup phase. A location that complements and strengthens other industrial areas in Eindhoven.
In short, the aim was to achieve an area transformation that is truly impressive. A site that would provide the manufacturing industry in Eindhoven with the missing link. The link that Eindhoven needs to continue to grow and develop even further. And it has succeeded. Succeeded very well in a very short time.
The next step: more than just square meters of business accommodation
"It is very special and cool to see that Strijp-T is developing faster than expected. Almost all spaces have now been fully rented out and the first parties are already outgrowing their current space and finding a suitable new one elsewhere on T," Hoogedeure continues. "Once you land on T, you don't want or need to leave anymore. In addition to the existing buildings that have been transformed and rented out, there are still plenty of new construction opportunities. So we are far from done," Boudie adds.
Enthusiastic. "What is also noticeable is that the companies currently housed there inspire each other. Therefore, we focus on companies with the same vision. Organizations related to the manufacturing industry. This also applies to the company that will soon be housed in building TY, the Glass Cathedral. This building offers space for a company of approximately 5,000 - 7,000 m2 (or for two companies of approximately 2,500 m2 - 3,500 m2 each).
In summary, at Strijp-T, a company receives significantly more than just square meters of workspace. This also applies to building TY. For example, a beautiful rooftop terrace is provided. It will once again be an inspiring environment that is good for the working atmosphere, for attracting customers and new employees. In other words, a professional business card that can also be used in 'the battle for talent'.
Green Lightbulb Park
"Of course, the redesign of the green space also contributes to the liveliness of the area. This redevelopment is being carried out in phases. Lanes 1 and 2, with the iconic buildings TR and TQ, have been completed. Work is now progressing from the outside towards the center of the surroundings. Currently, on the west side of Strijp-T, the connection of Lane 4 to Achtseweg-Zuid is being finalized. Building TY is located here. Additionally, the finishing touches are being put on the second expansion of building TAQ, and building TZ is also being renovated."
The redevelopment of the light bulb square on the east side of Strijp-T, which as a green area is an important part of the area, will receive the attention it deserves this summer. Quality appearance and experience are the basis for this, and we are doing everything we can to create a sustainable green space as a natural buffer between Strijp-S and Strijp-T.
The next business generation
Hoogedeure: "The Glass Cathedral, also known as building TY, will once again show how you can transform monuments with vision and keep them alive, both literally and figuratively, for future generations. I am proud to say that the authenticity of all buildings on Strijp-T has been preserved in every respect through careful renovation. "Who knows, a second ASML may emerge here." There is plenty of potential. Supplemented with contemporary sustainable adjustments and innovations, we have ensured that the innovative spirit of Philips' legendary manufacturing industry continues to thrive on Strijp-T with new players in every way."
VISUAL TOUR You can already experience how this will all turn out in building TY by participating in a VR experience at Strijp-T. With the help of a VR headset, you can virtually walk through the newly transformed building where the future is visualized and can be experienced firsthand. Potential interested parties who want to take 'the next step' at Strijp-T are cordially invited to participate.
