Target audience Strijp-T

Strijp-T is the place where new solutions and technologies are developed, and groundbreaking ideas come to life; exactly what Strijp-T was originally designed for.

STRIJP-T MODEL

The world is changing rapidly. In order to continue innovating and keep up with this changing world, people, organizations, and the way they work must truly change. When organizations collaborate and thus strengthen their specific strengths (ecosystem), a difference is made. At Strijp-T, we innovate together, on the path to creating this future world.

The above model shows which organizations meet the requirements for Strijp-T. By organizations, we mean companies, business units, and research or educational institutions. There are 4 criteria that ('from inside to outside') together determine if an organization fits on Strijp-T. These criteria are:

1. The role in the chain of make-create-innovate.

2. The connection with (one of) the thematic areas (high-tech, smart society, sustainability, experience)

3. The nature of the organization

4. Supporting functions: connected to and enhancing the ecosystem at Strijp-T.

The organizations at Strijp-T must meet all of the first 3 criteria or be supportive of them (4th criteria).

CRITERION 1THE CHAIN MAKE-CREATE-INNOVATE

First of all, organizations at Strijp-T have their own role in the chain of make-create-innovate, where there is at least a 'make' component combined with a 'create' and/or 'innovate' component. So, they are at least:

·        focused on making or producing products, and furthermore on:

· adding creative value to these products or enhancing them, and/or

·        coming up with new products in an innovative way. These can be complete products, modules or components, or production methods.

Creating, innovating, and making are seen in the broadest sense of the word: what do we create, how do we achieve this, and how do we bring this to the customer (fitting within the ten innovation types of Doblin). Within the chain of the creative industry, which is larger than just Strijp-T, innovative ideas are collectively developed into products ready for the market. This involves both physical and digital products. Each organization focuses on a part of the chain where they are specialists and collaborates with other specialists to achieve a good end result.

CRITERION 2: SUBJECT AREAS

Furthermore, the organizations at Strijp-T are active in one or more of the four thematic areas. These areas align with the major developments and challenges of the future (health, mobility, energy, food, safety).

Hightech:

Development of advanced technology. Generally, products with high complexity and low quantities aimed at making future work easier, more efficient, and better, in particular.
Think about: Biotechnology, Medical technology, precision instruments, 3D printing, etc.

Smart society:

Coming up with solutions in a smart way, using data and technology, for the major changes in our society, cities, and homes. In this way, organizations ensure a pleasant and social life in the changing society.
Think about: Big data, Mobility, Livability, Internet of Things (IoT), etc.

Sustainability:

Investigating how to sustainably meet the (growing) needs of humanity without endangering people, the environment, or the economy.
Think about: Sustainable construction, circular economy, energy transition, etc.

Experience

Responding to the changing way of life, where experience becomes more important than possession.
Putting people and their experiences at the center, possibly supported by new technologies.
Think about: Experience in virtual/augmented reality labs, gamification, etc.

CRITERIUM 3: NATURE OF THE ORGANIZATION

Furthermore, the organizations at Strijp-T can be characterized as growing, ambitious organizations that want to take the next step and are driven by innovation. This is because they innovate themselves, conduct their activities in an innovative way, or because they provide (a contribution to) an innovative product (i.e. product or service). These organizations are on one hand business-to-business companies (companies that provide something to other companies) or business units.

On the other hand, these are educational organizations (courses) that focus on practical and innovative education (technical or business administration). It is important that the business sector and education reinforce each other to achieve lifelong learning. Students can gain concrete experience with and in the business sector. The courses develop ideas and technologies that can be implemented or further developed within the business sector. At Strijp-T, education aligns with the market and can respond more quickly to market demands.

All organizations at Strijp-T must be functionally connected to the ecosystem. Furthermore, the presence of the organization should strengthen/supplement the concept and ecosystem. In order to ensure sufficient diversity, a multitude of similar/comparable organizations or functions within Strijp-T will be actively discouraged in order to safeguard the strength and quality of the concept.

CRITERION 4: SUPPORTING FUNCTIONS

In order to truly enable organizations at Strijp-T to collaborate on future developments and challenges, supporting functions are being introduced at Strijp-T. These functions help facilitate meetings, learning from each other, inspiring one another, and forming connections among Strijp-T organizations and their employees, customers, suppliers, and functional relationships. The aim is to enrich each other, share innovations effectively with one another and with the world. These supporting functions enhance the innovation and working environment, and strengthen the individual parts within the chain, often through communication.
Think about: horeca, exhibition space, open work/presentation spaces, sports/leisure facilities, etc.
